WhatsApp allows you to transfer chat history to iPhone

WhatsApp has given users the ability to transfer chat history, photos, videos, and voice messages from Android to iPhone via Apple's Move to iOS app.

Prior to this expansion, users could only transfer chats from iPhone to Android. The ability to transfer WhatsApp data from Android to iPhone is rolling out in beta starting today. But it takes about a week to reach all users.

"We're adding to WhatsApp the ability to securely switch between phones and transfer chat history, photos, videos, and voice messages between Android and iPhone while maintaining end-to-end encryption," Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement.

He added: This is the most important feature required. Last year we launched the ability to switch from iPhone to Android. And we're now adding the ability to switch from Android to iPhone as well.

The platform notes that the transfer process only works on new iPhones or those that have undergone a factory reset. You also need Android 5 or later via Android device and iOS 15.5 via iPhone.

WhatsApp allows you to export chat history, photos and videos

To get started, you need to open the Move to iOS app on your Android phone and follow the onscreen instructions. Once you follow the instructions, an icon will be displayed on your iPhone.

You are required to enter the code via your Android phone. Then, you need to click Continue and follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

After that, you need to select WhatsApp in the data transfer screen. You can then start the process by clicking on Start on your Android phone.

Then you need to wait for WhatsApp to prepare your data for export. Once the data is set up, you are signed out of your Android phone.

You then need to tap Next to return to the Move to iOS app. Then, you need to click Continue to transfer data from your Android phone to your iPhone while waiting for Move to iOS to confirm the transfer is complete.

Next, you need to install the latest version of the chat platform from the App Store and then log in using the same phone number you used on your old device. You will then be asked to click on Start to allow the process to complete.

The chat platform notes that this process can be used to transfer your account information, profile picture, individual chats, group chats, chat history, media, and settings. However, you cannot transfer the call history or the display name.

The company explains that the transferred data does not move to cloud storage as a result of the migration until you create an iCloud backup.

The platform also states that it cannot see the data you transfer and that your Android phone will still keep your data unless you delete WhatsApp or wipe your phone.

Although it was easy to transfer platform data from one iPhone to another, or from one Android device to another, users had to find difficult workarounds when moving from Android to iPhone. The new tool solves this problem and makes the switch easier to make.
